Biography

Steve Barta is a Pianist, Composer, Author, Educator, Producer and Recording Artist. Hailed by Jazz flutist Herbie Mann as a “curious blend of Aaron Copeland and Antonio Carlos Jobim”, Steve’s contributions to the world of music include works for symphony orchestra, jazz ensemble, chorale, string quartet and solo piano.

After touring extensively with Flutist Herbie Mann’s band “Jasil Brazz”, Steve released the widely acclaimed recording “Blue River with special guest Herbie Mann”.  Since then Steve has released 14 recordings available on his label “Steve Barta Music”, iTunes, Amazon.com, and CDBaby.  

 

Under private label, Steve's extensive catalog of music is available to corporations and organizations for use in their marketing programs. 

  

His books for piano are published by Hal Leonard Publishing, and available in English and Japanese. The Source is used by musicians and educational systems worldwide and has become a standard in the music industry.

 

Steve has written several works for symphony orchestra that have been performed worldwide, including Heritage Suite and A Midwest Dream.  Steve’s latest work “Jumpin’Jazz - A Swinging Jungle Tale” is a family concert for storyteller, jazz quintet and orchestra.

 

Steve has accepted more than 20 private commissions for symphonic and ensemble works.

 

He has shared the stage and studio with Jazz greats Hubert Laws, Herbie Mann, Stan Getz, Les McCann, Dori Caymmi, B.B. King, Ramsey Lewis, Dave Valentin, among others.

 

Steve, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, spends most of his time composing. He accepts a limited number of private commissions each year, ranging from solo piano to full symphonic works.

 

As a Steinway Artist, Steve is provided with a Steinway grand piano on any concert stage in the world.
